Which Dyson Battery Do I Need? Find Your Pack by Model, Voltage or Part Code
Dyson model names do not tell you which battery to buy. Three voltages and two fixing styles split the compatible machines into four platforms, and the only number that settles the question is the one printed on the pack you are replacing. Work through the decision flow, search the part-code table, or match your model name — all three routes end at the same pack page.
Every code, voltage, capacity and price in this finder is copied from the matching aussiebatt.com listing. Where two listings disagree, both readings are shown.
Three steps to the correct pack
Most wrong orders come from reading the name off the box instead of the number off the battery. Give us ninety seconds and a torch-free walk around the machine.
-
Find the code and the voltage
Look at the label on the existing pack — voltage first (21.6 V, 25.2 V or 22.2 V), then the part number such as 968670-02 or 61034-01. The photo section below shows the three places Dyson puts that label.
-
Identify the fixing
Does the pack slide into the handle and hold with a release catch, or is it retained by screws behind the canister? Two Dysons can share a voltage and still not share a battery. Read click-in vs screw-in if the two look the same to you.
-
Open the platform page and check the fit list
Every product page publishes a fits and does-not-fit verdict. If your machine is on the does-not-fit list, stop — the answer is a different platform, not a modification.
Voltage first, shape second, model name last. The same machine name can sit on different internals across a production run, and the same battery shell is sold under six different Dyson model names. Your label is the tie-breaker; the tables below are keyed to it.
The four battery platforms, drawn out
Start at the top with the number on your label. Four branches cover every machine AussieBatt lists; the bottom box covers the newer sticks that are outside the range. Follow the branch with arrows to open the matching page.
Text version of the flow, for print and screen readers: 21.6 V with a slide-in shell means the V6 / DC58–DC62 / SV03–SV06 / SV09 family; 21.6 V with a screw-retained canister means V7, V7 Animal, V8, SV10 or SV11; 25.2 V means V10 or SV12; 22.2 V means the DC31, DC34, DC35, DC44 or DC45 handhelds; anything else is outside the current range.
Part number to pack: every code we publish
Search the code printed on your battery or the one quoted on the Dyson parts page. The table lists 31 code rows covering every part number and cell code printed on our Dyson listings, plus the two Dyson Australia genuine reference numbers owners most often paste at us. Typing filters the rows; the table is complete and readable with JavaScript switched off, so the filter is a shortcut, not a requirement.

The two Dyson Australia rows are Dyson part numbers, not AussieBatt codes. They are here because owners copy them off dyson.com.au — where 972237-01 is listed at AU $150.00 and 967861-04 at AU $150.00 — and then ask which of our packs matches. See the price comparison page for that arithmetic.
Model name to battery platform
Use this when the label has rubbed off and all you have is the name on the box. It is a name-to-platform map only — always clear the answer against the fits list on the product page, because two of these names (SV04 and SV11) carry documented spec or price conflicts.

Two names that need an extra check
SV04 appears on our category page as an 18 V Ni-MH 3000 mAh pack and on its product page as a 21.6 V lithium 3000 mAh pack at the same AU $75.55. Those are different batteries at the same price, so match by the code on your shell, not by the model name. SV11 is the same 21.6 V 4.0 Ah shell as the V7 but the SV11 page sells it at AU $79.49 while the V7 page sells it at AU $50.79 — ask us which price applies before you pay.
Where Dyson puts the part code on the machine
Three places, in the order most owners find them. Take a phone photo of whatever you find before you undo anything — that photo is both your ordering reference and your proof if a warranty claim is ever raised.
-
1

On the pack itself, under the release
The specification label is on the flat face or underside of the battery shell — on screw-in machines you usually have to loosen the retaining screw and tip the pack out to read it. The photo above shows an SV03 handle with its label visible once the pack is freed.
-
2

Handle, above the charger socket
On the slide-in V6-era shells the code plate sits on the handle barrel just above where the charger plugs in. Look for the voltage line first: 21.6 V puts you in the V6 family, not the V7.
-
3
Part label on the body, behind the bin
The machine's own model plate (the SV code, for example SV03 or SV10) is on the body near the cyclone. It gives you the Dyson model code, which you can read straight off the model map above — but it does not tell you the fitting type, so check the pack too.
Legacy 22.2 V machines come in Type A and Type B, and the model name does not say which. Dyson's own parts page warns that DC35, DC44 and DC45 were built with either a click-in (Type A) or a screw-in (Type B) battery. Two neighbours with identical DC35s can need different packs. Look at how your shell is held — a button or catch means Type A, a screw behind the canister means Type B — and buy that type. Our DC35 listing prices Type A at AU $36.79 and Type B at AU $42.79.
Never mix the two charger voltages
The 21.6 V charger is listed for DC58, DC59, DC61, V6, V7 and V8 packs; the 22.2 V charger for DC31, DC34, DC35 and DC44 Animal. Charging a pack on the wrong voltage can cook the cells and is not covered by our warranty, which excludes damage from misuse or improper installation. If your charger is missing or the plug is damaged, buy the matching one from the charger page.
When the finder cannot answer you
Sometimes the label is unreadable, the machine was bought second-hand, or the code belongs to a platform we do not list. Those cases have a short answer, and it is not "buy the closest one".
Send us the photo
Email info@aussiebatt.com with a photo of the label and one of the handle. Support runs Monday–Friday 9am–4pm and will name the pack and the price before you order.
Label completely unreadable
Use the fixing and the body code: a slide-in shell with a release catch is the V6 family, a screw-retained canister is V7 or V8, and the big 25.2 V shell on a full-size cyclone stick is V10.
Newer Dyson models
V11, V12, V15, V10 Outsize, Gen5 and WashG1 are not in our range. We will say so plainly rather than sell you an almost-fit; the compatibility guide explains the sourcing request.
Wrong one already bought
30 day money back applies, so an honest mis-read costs you a return trip to the post office, nothing more. Our return policy is on the main store.
One thing this finder deliberately does not do: quote run times in minutes. aussiebatt.com publishes voltage, amp-hours, cell brand and price for every pack and no minute figures at all, so we will not invent them. Capacity tells you the energy on board (21.6 V × 4.0 Ah = 86.4 Wh, 21.6 V × 3.0 Ah = 64.8 Wh, 22.2 V × 2.0 Ah = 44.4 Wh), and your actual minutes depend on mode, filter condition and floor type — see the V7 runtime guide for that arithmetic honestly explained.
Battery compatibility questions, answered
My Dyson says V7 but the shop listing says SV11. Which battery is it?
Same platform. SV codes are the internal model codes Dyson prints on the body plate, and the V7 listing on our store explicitly covers SV11. Both use the 21.6 V 4.0 Ah screw-retained pack with codes 968670-02 and 225403. The two live pages price that shell differently (AU $50.79 and AU $79.49), so ask us which applies before ordering.
Can I swap a V6 battery into a V8 because they are both 21.6 V?
No. The V7 listing states the pack is not a fit for V6, V8 or SV07, and the shells are held differently — a slide-in V6-era pack against a screw-retained V8 canister. Voltage matching is necessary but not sufficient; the housing and connector decide as well.
How do I know whether my DC35 needs Type A or Type B?
Look at how the old pack is held. A release button or catch that lets the shell slide out is Type A (AU $36.79 on our DC35 page). A Phillips screw behind the canister is Type B (AU $42.79). Dyson ships the warning on its own parts page because DC35, DC44 and DC45 exist in both builds.
My old pack says 18 V and Ni-MH. Is that a Dyson problem or a seller problem?
It is a real older specification. Our SV04 category entry lists an 18 V Ni-MH 3000 mAh pack while the SV04 product page lists 21.6 V lithium at the same AU $75.55. Ni-MH and lithium packs are not interchangeable, so match by the code and chemistry printed on your pack and email us the photo if the two disagree.
The code on my battery is not in your table. What now?
Send the code to info@aussiebatt.com. We publish only codes that appear on our own listings, so an unfamiliar code is either a Dyson genuine part number, a machine outside the range, or a listing we can still source. We will check before you pay, not after.
