Dyson V6 Series Battery Replacement
One 21.6 V Dyson design is sold under seven names: V6, DC58, DC59, DC61, DC62, DC72, DC74 and the SV03 to SV09 machine codes. All of them take a slide-in pack with a release catch, and we stock the platform at two capacities — 4.0 Ah at AU $46.79 and 3.0 Ah at AU $45.79. The deciding number is the code printed on your old battery, not the badge on the handle.

Which machines sit on the V6 battery platform
Dyson rebadged the same cordless architecture for years. This list comes from the fit lists on our own V6 and SV03 product pages, so it is the list we ship against.
Fits these models
- V6 HEPA, Absolute, Fluffy, Animal, Animal Pro, Motorhead
- V6 Car+Boat, Baby+Child, Top Dog, Mattress, Trigger, Cord-free
- DC58, DC59, DC61, DC62, DC62 Animal, DC62 Animal Pro, DC72, DC74 Animal
- SV03, SV04, SV05, SV06, SV09
Not for these
- V7 and SV11 — our V7 listing states it is not fit for V6, and the reverse holds
- V8 and SV10 — matched on their own codes, see the V8 platform
- V10 / SV12 — that platform runs at 25.2 V
- DC31–DC45 handhelds — 22.2 V legacy Type A or Type B
- V11, V12, V15 Detect, Gen5 — outside our current range
Three loose ends, published rather than hidden. Our SV03 page (same 965874-02 pack) also lists SV07 while the V6 page does not — [CONFIRM SV07 fitment for the V6 platform]. The live DC72 listing shows no capacity or price — [CONFIRM DC72 capacity and price on the live listing]. And SV04 appears twice on our site: the product page says Li-ion 21.6 V, the category page says Ni-MH 18 V. We quote the Li-ion reading here, but an 18 V pack is a real buyer trap, so check the sticker before ordering.
V6 platform batteries: voltage, capacity, part codes and price
The 4.0 Ah and 3.0 Ah packs are deliberately different SKUs. Watt-hours are arithmetic from the published volts and amp-hours (V × Ah = Wh), not a bench test — we publish no runtime minutes.
| Pack | Voltage | Capacity | Energy | Cells | Part codes | Price |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| V6 4.0 Ah (also DC72, DC74 Animal) | 21.6 V | 4.0 Ah | 86.4 Wh | Sony A grade | 965874-02, 967819-02, 61034-01, 61034-06 | AU $46.79 list AU $60.99 |
| SV03 / DC58 / DC59 / DC61 3.0 Ah | 21.6 V | 3.0 Ah | 64.8 Wh | Panasonic A grade 18650 | 965874-02, 967819-02, 61034-01, 967810-21 | AU $45.79 list AU $67.99 |
| SV09 Animal 3.0 Ah | 21.6 V | 3.0 Ah | 64.8 Wh | Panasonic A grade 18650 | 965874-02 | AU $45.79 list AU $67.99 |
| DC62 handheld pack | 21.6 V | 3000 mAh | 64.8 Wh | Li-ion, 340 g | 61034-01 family | AU $75.55 reg AU $83.10 |
Why one machine shows two prices. The combined DC58/DC59 listing sells the 3.0 Ah pack at AU $45.79, while the individual wholesale pages for the DC58 and DC59 publish AU $75.55 (regular AU $83.10) for a 340 g Li-ion 3000 mAh pack. Both readings are live, so we show both rather than quietly pick the cheaper one: you pay the price on the listing you order from.
Against the Dyson Australia price
Dyson Australia lists a V6 replacement battery under its V6 / DC59 / DC58 support parts at AU $150.00. Our 4.0 Ah pack at AU $46.79 is AU $103.21 less, about 69 % below that list price. Dyson prices the parts that cause false "dead battery" alarms separately — pre-filter AU $35.00, cyclone AU $40.00, charger AU $40.00, wand AU $49.00, brush bar AU $49.00, mini motorhead AU $85.00 — which is why a blocked filter is always checked first.
OEM prices shown are Dyson Australia list prices for the corresponding genuine part, checked on dyson.com.au on 31 October 2026. Dyson changes prices and availability — confirm before relying on the saving figure.
What each V6 option holds, in watt-hours
Same arithmetic as the table: the 4.0 Ah pack stores roughly a third more energy than the 3.0 Ah pack, which is the entire reason it costs a little more. The third bar is the legacy 22.2 V 2.0 Ah pack, shown because it stores far less and will not physically sit in a V6 body.
Neither bar is a runtime promise — a clean's length depends on the mode you run, the filter condition and the age of the motor. Choose capacity from the arithmetic, then judge results against the lifespan guide.
Typical faults on the V6 platform
The V6 is a decade-old design, so the same complaints recur. Most are fixable in an afternoon and only one needs a new battery.
Runs a couple of minutes, then dies
Typical worn-pack behaviour: a cell cannot hold charge under load, so the gauge collapses. Work through the not-holding-charge diagnosis order first — written for the V7, same voltage logic.
Charge light never changes
Plug into a known-good outlet and watch the dock or adapter light before condemning the cells. If that indicator is dead, the matching 21.6 V charger is the suspect.
Catch will not free the old pack
Forcing it cracks the handle lug. Confirm whether your machine is click-in or screw-retained with the click-in versus screw-in guide first.
If the old pack is swollen, hot, dropped or smells burnt
Do not charge it and do not puncture it. Take it to an Australian household-battery recycler and order a replacement — the replacement-signs guide lists the symptoms that matter.
Read the label on the old pack before you order. "V6" is a marketing name; the sticker carries the voltage and the part code (965874-02, 967819-02, 61034-01, 61034-06). If it says 21.6 V plus one of those codes you are on this platform — 4.0 Ah at AU $46.79 for more stored energy, or 3.0 Ah at AU $45.79 for the original shape. If it says 22.2 V or 25.2 V you are on a different platform and the pack will not fit.
What every V6 order includes
Brand new stock at Granville, Sydney, published delivery time 3–7 days, colour grey, full 1 year warranty and a 30 day money back window. Orders are processed within 24 hours and sent free via Australia Post, fully tracked. Pay with PayPal or bank deposit.
Our warranty limitation, quoted exactly as the product pages state it: "Our warranty does not extend to any products that are physically damaged or that are not under normal operating conditions as a result of misuse or improper installation on the buyer/user's part." The swap itself is a press-and-slide job — the replacement walkthrough covers the order of operations, and the warranty guide explains what a third-party pack does to any remaining Dyson cover.
