22.2 V platform · Type A click or Type B screw
Dyson DC31, DC34, DC35, DC44 and DC45 Batteries
These are Dyson's older 22.2 V handhelds, and the model number is not enough to order the right battery. Dyson itself warns that the DC35, DC44 and DC45 were sold with either a Type A click-in pack or a Type B screw-in pack, so two identical-looking machines can need different batteries. We stock both: Type A from AU $36.79 and Type B from AU $42.79. Get the fitting right first; capacity and price follow from it.

Does this platform cover your handheld?
From the fit list on our DC35 product page, plus the DC31 and DC45 wholesale listings. Voltage is the giveaway: these are 22.2 V packs, not 21.6 V or 25.2 V.

Type A or Type B: the ninety-second test
Look at how the old pack is retained. Type A clicks in — there is a latch you press and the battery slides out with no tools. Type B screws in — you remove one or more screws from the handle or base before the pack frees. Dyson publishes its own Type B replacement as part 967861-04 at AU $150.00, fitting DC45, DC44, DC43H, DC35 and DC34, and warns that DC35, DC44 and DC45 use either type. If you cannot see a screw and you cannot press a latch, send us a photo before ordering.
Why the fitting matters more than the model name
Two DC44s can be mechanically different machines. The drawing below is the distinction we ask buyers to check before they add a pack to the cart.

The DC45 page genuinely publishes two listings — a 299 g pack at AU $61.44 and a 358 g pack at AU $66.40, both 22.2 V 3000 mAh. Treat them as a light and an extended option rather than an error, and [CONFIRM which DC45 listing you will be sent] before ordering. The DC31 Animal listing matches the 358 g, AU $66.40 reading. Energy figures are arithmetic (22.2 V × Ah).
Versus Dyson Australia. Their Type B replacement (967861-04) is AU $150.00; our Type B pack is AU $42.79, which is AU $107.21 less and under a third of the price. OEM prices shown are Dyson Australia list prices for the corresponding genuine part, checked on dyson.com.au on 31 October 2026. Typical faults on the 22.2 V legacy handhelds
These machines are old enough that most faults are charger or cell age, not suction.
DC35 or DC44 will not charge at all
Plug into a working outlet and look at the lights on the dock or adapter before blaming the pack. The full order is in the DC35 won't-charge diagnosis guide.
Runs a minute, then cuts out
A 2.0 Ah pack on an ageing handheld holds far less than a stick vacuum battery, so wear shows up fast. DC31 maintenance tips covers storage and cycle habits that slow it down.
Bought the wrong type
Type A into a Type B machine simply will not latch, and forcing it cracks the housing. The click-in versus screw-in guide is the fastest way to prove which you have.
Identify the fitting before you look at a single price. On this platform "DC45" tells you the voltage but not the battery: one machine takes the AU $36.79 Type A click pack, another takes the AU $42.79 Type B screw pack, and neither is a substitute for the other. Press for a latch, look for a screw, then order against that — and match the 17083 or 917083 code on your own battery if it is still legible.
