Dyson DC45 Replacement Battery — 22.2 V, 3000 mAh

Our live DC45 page publishes two listings side by side: a 299 g pack at Reg AU $67.59 → AU $61.44 and a 358 g pack at Reg AU $73.04 → AU $66.40, both 22.2 V and both 3000 mAh. Read them as a light build and an extended build of the same platform rather than a mistake — and before either one matters, decide the fitting, because Dyson sold the DC45 with either a Type A click-in or a Type B screw-in battery. Dyson Australia's own Type B part, 967861-04, is AU $150.00.

Weight and price differ between the two listings; voltage and capacity do not.

Charger needed?
No, if your 22.2 V charger works — 21.6 V chargers will not do

Fitting first, then build, then price — in that order. On a DC45 the Type A versus Type B question is the only one that can make the purchase wrong outright. The 299 g and 358 g listings are the same 22.2 V, 3000 mAh platform, so that choice is about weight and cost in the hand, not about whether the machine will run.

Two DC45 listings are genuinely live on one page. The DC45 product page publishes 299 g at Reg AU $67.59 / Sale AU $61.44 and 358 g at Reg AU $73.04 / Sale AU $66.40, both 22.2 V 3000 mAh. We are treating them as a light build and an extended build rather than averaging them, and asking you to confirm before ordering: [CONFIRM which DC45 build you ship].

Choose the fitting before the listing: recessed screw above the charger socket means Type B, a large grey release button means Type A. The DC35 page on this site walks through that test with a diagram.

Price check

DC45 battery price against Dyson Australia

The DC45 is one of the five machines Dyson lists for its genuine Type B pack, so unlike the DC31 we can put a real Dyson figure next to ours.

Dyson Australia's genuine Type B pack for the DC45, and our two published listings
ItemDyson AU list priceAussieBattDifference
Replacement Type B battery, part 967861-04 (DC45, DC44, DC43H, DC35, DC34)AU $150.00AU $61.44 (299 g listing)AU $88.56 · 59% less
Same genuine part, against our extended buildAU $150.00AU $66.40 (358 g listing)AU $83.60 · 56% less

OEM prices shown are Dyson Australia list prices for the corresponding genuine part, checked on dyson.com.au on 31 October 2026. Dyson changes prices and availability — confirm before relying on the saving figure. The difference column is subtraction between two published prices, not a quote. Dyson also warns that DC35, DC44 and DC45 use either Type A (click) or Type B (screw), so the like-for-like comparison only holds if your machine is a Type B.

What the AU $150.00 vs AU $61.44 gap does and does not prove

It proves the price of two published parts on the same day. It does not prove identical cells, identical tooling or identical service life: ours is a compatible replacement battery, not a Dyson-manufactured part, and we say so on every page. What you are really buying is the same repair for a different sum — the arithmetic is AU $150.00 − AU $61.44 = AU $88.56 on the light listing and AU $150.00 − AU $66.40 = AU $83.60 on the extended one, with free tracked shipping and our own 1 year warranty on top. For the whole platform in one view, see the 22.2 V legacy battery page and the Dyson Australia price comparison.

What you get

Four things this pack puts back into a DC45

The DC45 is the handheld that spent its life doing car seats, stairs and skirting boards, which is exactly the duty that finishes a small 22.2 V pack. These are the four points that matter when you order.

3000 mAh at 22.2 V

22.2 V × 3.0 Ah = 66.6 Wh, stated as arithmetic — aussiebatt.com publishes no runtime minutes for any battery, so no minute figure appears on this page.

Two builds, honestly listed

A 299 g light build and a 358 g extended build on the same platform, both published on our live page with their own Reg and Sale prices.

Both retainings covered

Type A click-in and Type B screw-in on the same code family, so the pack matches the bay rather than being forced into it.

Fitting

Three steps, and a screwdriver for Type B only

Photograph the old battery label before you touch anything. On a machine sold with two retainings and two build listings, that photo is the most useful thing you can send us if anything needs exchanging.

  1. 1
Three photographs showing where the battery retaining screw sits on a cordless vacuum handle labelled SV03, and how that screw is loosened with a small driver.

    Free the old pack

Unplug the charger. Type B: undo the recessed screw above the charger socket — our SV03 photo sequence shows the same retained-screw principle. Type A: press the grey release button and slide.

  2. 2
Collage showing an exhausted handheld lithium battery withdrawn from the handle and a replacement pack aligned to the same contacts and mounting points.

    Fit the replacement

Line the new pack up with the same contacts and locating points and slide it fully home. If it needs force, stop — it is the wrong type.

  3. 3
Photographs of a cordless handheld vacuum on its charger with the charge indicator lit, then being used on upholstery.

    Refit, charge, test

Refit your own screw snugly without forcing plastic threads, then charge on your 22.2 V charger before the first run — new packs ship at a partial charge.

Stop if the old pack shows any of this

Swelling, discolouration, a burnt smell, a soak, a hard drop, or cells rattling loose in the case. Do not charge it and never puncture it. Take it to an Australian household-battery recycler and order a replacement instead.

Diagnosis

Why DC45 and other 22.2 V handheld packs fail

Small packs wear out visibly, and the airflow path is usually the real culprit

On a handheld this size the decline is obvious: a machine that used to finish the car now needs a recharge halfway through. Lithium capacity is lost fastest through heat and deep discharge, and legacy handhelds were typically run to empty on MAX and then parked in a hot car or a shed — the two conditions that age cells quickest. The imposter fault matters even more here: these small machines choke on a blocked filter or a partly blocked inlet, which makes the motor labour, the pack heat up and the machine cut out in a way that reads exactly as battery failure. Clean and fully dry the filter, clear the airway, let it rest an hour and retest. If the run time is still short, work through the signs it is time to replace the battery and, for charge faults, the DC35 won't-charge diagnosis, which covers this family. For the habits that keep a pack alive, the DC31 maintenance tips cover storing at roughly 40–50 % charge, 15–25 °C, dry, running a cycle every 2–3 weeks when the machine sits idle, and calibrating an odd fuel gauge with a full charge, a full discharge and a second full charge.

Questions

Dyson DC45 battery questions, answered

Which DC45 do I buy — Type A or Type B, and the 299 g or the 358 g listing?

Answer the fitting first, because that is the one that can make the order wrong outright. Look above the charger socket: a recessed screw means Type B, a large grey release button means Type A. Dyson sells its genuine Type B part 967861-04 for DC45, DC44, DC43H, DC35 and DC34 and warns that DC35, DC44 and DC45 use either type. Then the listings: our DC45 page publishes a 299 g light build at AU $61.44 and a 358 g extended build at AU $66.40, both 22.2 V and both 3000 mAh — so it is a weight-versus-cost decision, not a voltage one. Confirm before ordering: [CONFIRM which DC45 build you ship]. The fitting walkthrough is on the DC35 Type A versus Type B page.

Which charger does a DC45 take — is it the same one as a V6 or V8?

No, and this is where legacy owners get caught out. The DC45 is a 22.2 V platform and takes the charger we list as "Charger for 22.2V Dyson DC31 DC34 DC35 DC44 Animal". The 21.6 V chargers used by DC58–DC62, V6, V7 and V8 machines — the ones Dyson Australia prices at AU $40.00 — are a different voltage and must not be substituted, and neither does the 25.2 V V10 charger fit here. If yours is lost or faulty, see the Dyson charger page.

The DC45 pack runs hot and the machine cuts out. Is it the battery?

Often it is the airflow, not the cells. A blocked filter or choked inlet makes a small handheld overheat and shut down to protect the motor, which feels identical to a failing pack — clean and fully dry the filter, clear the cyclone and airway, let it cool for an hour and retest. Genuine warning signs are different: a case too hot to hold, swelling, discolouration, a burnt smell or cells rattling inside. Stop, unplug and contact us if you see any of them, and never charge a pack that has been soaked or dropped hard.

How long will a new DC45 battery run on a charge?

We publish no runtime minutes on aussiebatt.com for any battery, so there is no minute figure here to quote at you. The honest number is stored energy: 22.2 V × 3.0 Ah = 66.6 Wh on the 3000 mAh listings, and 44.4 Wh on the 2.0 Ah reading our shared DC35 / DC44 / DC45 spec block publishes. Minutes are that energy divided by the machine's draw, which changes with mode, attachment, floor and filter condition — Dyson's own model pages are the right source for mode-by-mode runtimes.

Will fitting this DC45 battery void my Dyson warranty?

Fitting a third-party battery will normally void Dyson's cover on that machine, so if the DC45 is still inside Dyson's period, claim through Dyson first. We also publish our own limitation in full because hiding it would be dishonest: our warranty does not extend to any products that are physically damaged or that are not under normal operating conditions as a result of misuse or improper installation on the buyer/user's part. That wording is precisely why we insist on the Type A or Type B test — a forced pack counts as improper installation. Read does it void my warranty.

How does delivery work and how do I claim on the warranty?

Orders are processed within 24 hours at Granville, Sydney, shipping is free via Australia Post, and most parcels arrive in 3–7 working days, fully tracked with the number emailed. Every battery carries a full 1 year warranty; to claim, email info@aussiebatt.com with the order number, the DC45 model code, the photo of your old battery label and a short description of the fault — support runs Monday to Friday, 9am–4pm. If the fitting or build is wrong, the 30 day money back window applies; see our return policy.
