Dyson DC35 Replacement Battery — 22.2 V, 2.0 Ah, Type A or Type B
This is the question we get more than any other on the legacy handhelds: does my DC35 need the Type A or the Type B battery? It is a fair question, because Dyson sold the DC35, DC44 and DC45 with either fitting — a click-in pack in some machines and a screw-retained pack in others. We stock both at 22.2 V and 2.0 Ah: Type A from AU $36.79 (list AU $60.99) and Type B from AU $42.79 (list AU $70.99). This page is the definitive way to tell which one your machine takes, in under ninety seconds and with no tools.
Dyson's own Type B replacement, part 967861-04, is listed at AU $150.00 and warns that DC35, DC44 and DC45 use either type.
How to know if you need Type A or Type B
Dyson's own guidance is to look at two specific places on the machine rather than trusting the model name. Take thirty seconds with a torch over the battery bay and the answer is usually obvious.
Look for a recessed screw just above the charger socket. If you can see a screw head sitting in a recess in that area, the pack is clamped in mechanically and you need Type B (screw-in). If instead there is a large grey release button you can press with a thumb and no visible screw above the socket, the pack is latched and you need Type A (click-in). That single distinction decides the purchase — not the model name, not the colour of the handle, and not the price.

Still not certain? Three fallbacks that work
(1) Read the code on the old battery — this family carries the 17083 and 917083 groups, so the code settles the platform even when the nameplate has worn off. (2) Try the latch before the screwdriver: a Type A pack moves the instant the button is pressed, and a Type B pack will not budge until the screw is out. (3) Send us a photo of the battery bay with the charger socket in frame — the fastest thing our support team can answer, Monday to Friday 9am–4pm on info@aussiebatt.com. Forcing a Type A into a screw bay cracks the housing.

The price in the box is the Type A figure. Choose by the screw-versus-button test above, not by the AU $6.00 gap between the two types — a Type A that will not latch is worth nothing at any price.
DC35 battery price against Dyson Australia
Dyson Australia publishes a genuine Type B replacement, part 967861-04, for AU $150.00 and warns that DC35, DC44 and DC45 use either Type A or Type B. That makes the like-for-like comparison a Type B against a Type B.

| Same machine, click-in fitting — not the same part as 967861-04 | — | AU $36.79 (Type A) | our lowest-priced legacy pack |
OEM prices shown are Dyson Australia list prices for the corresponding genuine part, checked on dyson.com.au on 31 October 2026. Dyson changes prices and availability — confirm before relying on the saving figure. The difference column is subtraction between two published prices, not a quote, and we have only applied it to the Type B against Type B comparison, because a click-in pack is not the same part as Dyson's screw-in 967861-04.
Why a Type B pack costs more here
The difference is the fitting, not the cells: both types on this page are 22.2 V, 2.0 Ah, 44.4 Wh, and Type B is a machined, screw-clamped shell that has to hold squarely against the handle under load, so our listing prices it AU $6.00 above the click-in Type A. That is the cost of the correct part — and our Dyson DC45 battery page covers the higher-capacity listings on the same platform.
Four things this pack puts back into a DC35
These handhelds are still good machines; they are just tired. Here is what a replacement actually restores.
The right fitting
Sold as both Type A and Type B so the pack drops into the bay as designed — no forcing, no adapting, no cracked housing.
22.2 V, 2.0 Ah
44.4 Wh of stored energy, shown as arithmetic. We publish no runtime minutes for any battery on this site, so nobody should expect a minute figure here.
Matched by code
Listed against the 17083 and 917083 code groups plus 18172-01-04, 64167-1113 and 64167-2713, so the number on your shell is what we match.
Wrong type? Send it back
30 day money back plus a full 1 year warranty, handled in Australia, with most parcels back on the road in 3–7 working days from order.
Three steps — the screwdriver only comes out for Type B
Whichever type you have, photograph the old battery label before removing it. That photo proves the code, the voltage and the fitting, which is everything a claim or an exchange turns on.

1

Type B: undo the retaining screw
Unplug the charger. The photo here is our SV03 screw-in sequence — the same retained-screw principle as a Type B DC35 bay. Loosen, keep the screw, note where it came from.
-
2

Type A: press the grey button and slide
No tools. Press the release button firmly and slide the pack out; if it resists, stop and check for a screw — you are looking at a Type B bay.

Fit, seat and charge
Line the new pack up to the same contacts, seat it squarely, refit your screw snugly (never forced) and charge on your 22.2 V charger before the first run.
Stop if the old pack shows any of this
A swollen or discoloured case, a burnt smell, a pack that has been soaked, or cells rattling inside. Do not charge it and never puncture it. Take it to an Australian household-battery recycler — council and large-retailer drop-off points handle them.
Why DC35, DC44 and DC45 packs fail
Small capacity, hard duty, and a charger that ages with the machine
A 44.4 Wh pack has less margin for wear than a stick vacuum's battery, so the decline shows early: a machine that used to do the stairs now needs recharging between rooms. Capacity is lost fastest to heat plus deep discharge, and on machines this age the charger and its contacts are a genuine second suspect — a pack that will not take a charge at all may be a charger problem, not a cell problem. Work through the DC35 won't-charge diagnosis first, then the signs it is time to replace the battery. For the habits that slow the decline, the DC31 maintenance tips and our battery care guide cover storing at roughly 40–50 % charge, cool and dry, running a cycle every 2–3 weeks when idle, and calibrating an odd gauge with a full charge, full discharge and second full charge.
Dyson DC35 Type A and Type B questions, answered
How do I know if I need Type A or Type B for my DC35, DC44 or DC45?
Look at the area above the charger socket. Dyson's own guidance is the same test we use: if there is a recessed screw up there, the pack is clamped mechanically and you need Type B (screw-in, "Long Life", AU $42.79). If there is a large grey release button and no screw, the pack is latched and you need Type A (click-in, "Extended Life", AU $36.79). Dyson lists the genuine Type B part 967861-04 for DC45, DC44, DC43H, DC35 and DC34, and warns that DC35, DC44 and DC45 use either type — which is exactly why the model name cannot answer this on its own. If the bay tells you nothing, read the code on the old battery (17083 or 917083 group) or send us a photo.
Can I keep using my original Dyson charger on a 22.2 V pack?
Yes, if yours is the 22.2 V charger that came with the machine — we list it as the "Charger for 22.2V Dyson DC31 DC34 DC35 DC44 Animal". Do not use a 21.6 V charger from a DC58, DC59, V6, V7 or V8 machine, and never a 25.2 V V10 charger: voltage must match the pack. Dyson Australia prices its own V6/V7/V8 charger at AU $40.00, but that is the wrong part for this platform, so see our charger page if yours has failed.
My DC35 battery gets hot and the run time has halved. Is the pack finished?
Halved run time is the classic end-of-life sign on any lithium pack, and warmth after a hard session is normal. But too hot to hold, swelling, discolouration, a burnt smell, or cut-outs that only clear after cooling are safety signals — stop, unplug and contact us rather than charging it again. A blocked filter or airway on these handhelds also produces heat plus short running, so check those before assuming the cells. The replacement decision list walks through both cases.
How many minutes will I get on a charge?
We publish no runtime minutes on aussiebatt.com for any battery, so there is no minute figure on this page and there never will be one we invented. What we can state honestly is energy: 22.2 V × 2.0 Ah = 44.4 Wh on both the Type A and Type B packs here. Minutes are that energy divided by the machine's draw, which changes with the mode in use, the attachment, the floor and how blocked the filters are. Dyson's own model pages are the right source for mode-by-mode minutes, and the 44.4 Wh figure is what you use to compare one pack with another.
My DC35 still shows as covered by Dyson — will fitting this void the warranty?
Fitting any third-party battery will normally void Dyson's cover on that machine, so if you are still inside Dyson's period, claim through Dyson first. We publish our own limitation rather than hiding it: our warranty does not extend to any products that are physically damaged or that are not under normal operating conditions as a result of misuse or improper installation on the buyer/user's part. That last phrase is why we spend this whole page on getting the type right — a forced Type A in a Type B bay is exactly the improper installation the exclusion refers to. See does it void my warranty.
What happens if I order the wrong type, and how long does delivery take?
You are covered by the 30 day money back window on a wrong fit, and every pack carries a full 1 year warranty besides. Orders are processed within 24 hours at our Granville, Sydney warehouse and most parcels arrive in 3–7 working days, tracked via Australia Post with the number emailed. To claim or exchange, email info@aussiebatt.com with the order number, the machine code and a photo of the old battery label — Monday to Friday, 9am–4pm — or read our return policy.
