Here is the thing most battery sellers will not tell you: fitting a third-party battery to a machine that is still inside its manufacturer's cover period will normally void Dyson's cover on that machine. We say that plainly because most of our customers are out-of-warranty owners who saved AU $100 or more on a pack, and because an in-warranty owner who buys from us first loses money. This page covers how to check your own status from records you already have, what our 1 year warranty and 30 day money back do cover, what our own exclusion clause says word for word, and how to claim.
This is commercial guidance from a parts seller, not legal advice. The Australian consumer-law questions on this page are flagged for review rather than answered with outcomes.
Dyson's cover on a machine is written around that machine being maintained and repaired with the parts and conditions Dyson specifies. Our own reading of the standard guidance, which we repeat to every buyer, is that fitting an aftermarket battery to a machine still inside Dyson's warranty period will normally void Dyson's cover on that machine. That is not a scare tactic — it is the reason our product pages publish the fit list, the exclusion clause and the code-matching instructions so prominently.
The practical consequence is simple sequencing. If your machine may still be covered, the battery claim goes to Dyson first, because a Dyson Australia genuine replacement pack under cover — the V7/V8 part 972237-01 lists at AU $150.00, checked on dyson.com.au on 31 October 2026 — costs you nothing if the claim is accepted. If the machine is out of cover, a compatible pack at AU $46.79 to AU $75.79 with a full 1 year warranty from us is the cheapest repair available, and it puts nothing at risk, because there is no manufacturer cover left to lose.
Check your cover status before you order, not after the pack is fitted. In-warranty owners should claim through Dyson first. Out-of-warranty owners lose nothing by fitting a compatible pack — and that is the majority of the machines we sell for.
Because the alternative is worse for everyone. An in-warranty owner who fits a compatible pack and then takes a separate fault back to Dyson can have the whole claim declined, and the conversation afterwards is with us. Hiding the exclusion clause or pretending a third-party pack is "just a consumable" would sell a few more units this quarter and cost us the 30 day return, the support ticket and the customer.
It also costs you a machine. The packs we sell are matched by published part codes and are 100 % compatible with the original fitting for that platform — which is precisely why a pack that is not matched, from anywhere, is the dangerous one. The warranty question and the safety question have the same answer: use the right part, in the right machine, at the right voltage.

You do not need our help for this, and you do not need to explain the machine's history to find out. Use records you already hold, then Dyson's own channels for anything only they can confirm.
Receipt, credit-card or PayPal statement, bank deposit reference, delivery confirmation email or marketplace order history. This is the only firm start date available to you, and it is the one any assessor will work from.
The period is on the paperwork you bought under — the invoice terms, the retailer's product page at the time, or the registration confirmation. [CONFIRM the warranty period Dyson quoted for your specific machine and purchase channel — we do not publish a Dyson cover length here because we cannot source yours]
If you created a Dyson account or registered the product when it arrived, that account holds the record of cover, and the confirmation email you received at the time will state it. If you bought second-hand, the registration is probably still in the previous owner's name.
Dyson Australia's support channels can confirm cover status against the machine's identifiers. Have the body plate code (the SV number), the purchase date and the retailer ready. Nobody else can answer this for you, including us.
Whether a previous pack was replaced, whose pack it was, and whether anything has been modified. Any of these can already have affected cover, and it is better to know before you buy a part.
A three-or-four-year-old V6, V7 or V8 that has simply stopped holding a charge, bought from an Australian retailer long enough ago that cover has run out. In that case there is nothing to lose by fitting a compatible pack, and the arithmetic is on the comparison page: AU $150.00 for the Dyson Australia V7/V8 part against AU $50.79 for our V7 pack and AU $52.79 for our V8 pack.
Australian consumer law gives buyers certain statutory guarantees on goods, and those guarantees are not something a seller can simply write away in a warranty booklet. Where people get hurt is in the detail: what a guarantee covers in your specific case, whether a fault is the product or the part fitted to it, and what remedy applies, all turn on facts we do not hold — your purchase, your machine, and what has been done to it.
So we are deliberately not publishing legal conclusions on this page. We are not stating what a court or a regulator would decide, we are not quoting section numbers, and we are not telling you that fitting our pack is legally risk-free in your circumstances. What we are telling you is the commercial reality as we see it from the counter: a machine still inside Dyson's cover period should be claimed through Dyson first, and a machine that is out of cover has nothing to lose.
If you are an in-warranty owner whose claim has been declined and you believe Australian consumer law gives you a remedy anyway, the correct next step is a complaints process or independent advice — not a forum post and not a sentence written by a parts seller. The ACCC publishes general guidance for consumers on guarantees and repairs; read the current version of it rather than a summary of it.
[CONFIRM legal review of ACCC / Australian Consumer Law wording — the operator must review and approve this section before publishing, including whether any reference to statutory guarantees or consumer remedies needs changing] Nothing in this section should be read as legal advice, and no specific legal outcome, ruling or legislative entitlement is asserted anywhere on this page.
Every battery we sell carries a full 1 year warranty and a 30 day money back window, and we publish the limitation as well, because hiding it looks dishonest and it is the clause people most often need explained.
Our product pages state the exclusion in these words:
"Our warranty does not extend to any products that are physically damaged or that are not under normal operating conditions as a result of misuse or improper installation on the buyer/user's part."
Translated into the workshop, that means the following table. It is not a legal document; it is how the clause is applied at our counter.
| Situation | 1 year warranty | 30 day money back | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| New pack fails to hold a charge or stops working in normal domestic use | Covered | Covered | Normal failure of the part we supplied. |
| Pack is the wrong platform for your machine and you want to send it back | Not a fault | Covered | The 30 day window exists precisely for honest mis-reads. See our return policy. |
| Pack was fitted to a machine at the wrong voltage, or charged on the wrong charger | Not covered | Return only | Improper installation and not under normal operating conditions. |
| Pack is dropped, cracked, swollen after impact or modified | Not covered | Return only, if unused | Physical damage is excluded verbatim. |
| Pack is used in a machine whose motor fault draws excessive current | Not covered | — | Diagnose the machine first; a failing motor kills new packs. |
| Your Dyson's own claim is declined after a third-party pack is fitted | Not our cover | — | That is manufacturer cover on the machine, which is why in-warranty owners should claim through Dyson first. |
Every pack is described on its own listing as brand new, with 30 days money back and a full 1 year warranty, Grade-A Sony or Panasonic 18650 lithium cells, FCC, CE and RoHS certification and 100 % QC on every battery. Those claims come from our own product pages, not from a review site.
One email, four lines of information, and usually one reply. Our support team handles warranty in Australia, not through an overseas portal.

The model code off the machine, and the part code printed on the pack we sent you. That is what tells us whether it is a fault, a fitment problem or a charger problem.
What it does, how long it has done it, and what you have already checked: filter, airway, charger, wall socket, temperature. Two sentences saves a week.
We will tell you what to do with the failed pack. Lithium returns follow shipping rules, so do not put one in the post without hearing from us first — and never bin a swollen pack.
A pack that becomes uncomfortably hot, smells acrid, discolours or bulges should be unplugged and set aside, not recharged "one more time". Contact us with the order number and what you saw. Damage caused by continuing to use a pack in that state falls under the physical-damage and abnormal-conditions exclusion, and it is also the situation where the risk to your home is real rather than theoretical.
| Your machine | Recommended route | What it costs you | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| Inside Dyson's cover period, fault is the pack | Claim through Dyson Australia first | Nothing, if the claim is accepted | You keep the manufacturer's cover on the rest of the machine. |
| Inside cover, but the fault is filters, dock or airflow | Service it, do not replace the pack | Your time | No claim needed and no pack fitted. Blocked airflow imitates battery failure. |
| Out of cover, machine otherwise healthy, run time collapsed | Fit a compatible pack matched by code | AU $36.79 – AU $75.79, shipping free | Nothing to lose; you gain a 1 year warranty on the new pack. |
| Out of cover, pack swollen or drop-damaged | Recycle the old pack, order a new one | Pack price; recycler drop-off free | Do not charge it again on the way to the recycler. |
| Cover status unknown (bought second-hand) | Establish the date from your own records, then ask Dyson | Your time | Do not fit a third-party pack on the assumption that experimenting is free. |
| Machine is a V11, V12, V15, Gen5 or WashG1 | Dyson route, or a sourcing check with us | Varies | See the compatibility guide; we do not list those packs. |
One rule beats every argument on this page: if there is still manufacturer cover on the machine, use it before you spend AU $50 of your own money.

Our reading of the standard guidance is that fitting a third-party battery to a machine still inside Dyson's cover period will normally void Dyson's cover on that machine, which is why we tell in-warranty owners to claim through Dyson first. How far that extends to unrelated faults is a question for Dyson and, if you disagree with their answer, for a complaints process — not something we can promise you from a parts counter.
We are not going to advise you to conceal a part change from a warranty assessor, and the practical evidence — wear on the fixing, marks on the contacts — tends to be visible anyway. If the machine is in cover, use the cover.
No, provided it is fitted correctly to the machine it is matched to. Our 1 year warranty covers failure of the battery we supplied; it does not extend to products that are physically damaged or not under normal operating conditions as a result of misuse or improper installation. Correct voltage, correct platform, screws snugly refit, your own matching charger.
30 day money back applies, and fitment mistakes are the most common reason parcels come back to us. Read our return policy on the main store, keep the pack undamaged, and if you are unsure which of our packs matches your machine, email the label code first.
Ours is a full 1 year on every battery, plus 30 days money back, handled in Australia on info@aussiebatt.com. Dyson's cover period on your machine is a fact only your purchase paperwork, your Dyson registration or Dyson support can confirm, so we do not publish a figure for it here.
Not when the fault is the machine drawing the pack down — that is an operating-condition problem rather than a product problem, and it will kill a second pack too. Test the filter, airway and charger first, and tell us in the claim email what you found.
Usually no. A replacement pack is AU $36.79 to AU $75.79 with a 1 year warranty; a used machine is a gamble on the age of its battery, its motor and its filters, and it arrives with no cover you can verify. Restoring the machine you know is the cheaper and better understood repair.
Australian consumer law provides statutory guarantees that a seller cannot simply write away, and how those guarantees apply to your machine, your purchase and a specific declined claim depends on facts we do not hold. We have deliberately not stated legal outcomes or quoted legislation on this page. Read the current guidance published by the ACCC, or seek independent advice, if you are in that dispute.
