{"id":1486,"date":"2015-05-23T07:24:51","date_gmt":"2015-05-23T07:24:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.aussiebatt.com\/blog\/?p=1486"},"modified":"2016-04-21T01:59:17","modified_gmt":"2016-04-21T01:59:17","slug":"dyson-invests-in-battery-tech-could-double-smartphone-battery-life","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.aussiebatt.com\/blog\/dyson-invests-in-battery-tech-could-double-smartphone-battery-life\/","title":{"rendered":"Dyson invests in battery tech could double smartphone battery life"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The new technology was developed by the battery-tech start-up Sakti3, unlike today\u2019s liquid-based lithium batteries, this is a solid-state battery technology that can store twice as much energy and\u00a0could ultimately double battery life forelectric cars, Tablet PC and smartphones.<\/p>\n<p>Sakti3, founded in 2008 by former University of Michigan engineering professor Ann Marie Sastry, produces lithium-ion batteries that use solid-state technology, rather than the liquid electroytes that have in some cases caused fires.\u00a0The technology is safer than liquid-based lithium-ion technology, introduced by Sony in 1991, and could also effectively double devices battery life.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.aussiebatt.com\/acer\/as10d71-batteries.html\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1491 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/www.aussiebatt.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/acer-as10d71-laptop-battery-300x157.jpg\" alt=\"acer-as10d71-laptop-battery\" width=\"300\" height=\"157\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.aussiebatt.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/acer-as10d71-laptop-battery-300x157.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.aussiebatt.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/acer-as10d71-laptop-battery-1024x537.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.aussiebatt.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/acer-as10d71-laptop-battery.jpg 1952w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>British vacuum cleaner manufacturer Dyson has agreed to invest $15m (\u00a310m) in Sakti3 whose technology could double battery capacity for products including smartphones and electric cars.\u00a0Dyson has entered into a joint development agreement to commercialise the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.aussiebatt.com\/dyson-dc31-battery.html\">Dyson DC31 Battery<\/a>, one of the major components to today\u2019s mobile technology and one of the biggest obstructers to further progress.\u00a0Portable and cordless technologies of today have progressed dramatically in the past 30 years, and they have all relied on the liquid-based lithium batteries.<\/p>\n<p>However, batteries have failed to keep up with other technologies, forcing manufacturers to choose between thinner and longer lasting devices. With the changes in this technology, we might see an iPhone 6\u00a0last longer than a day on a single charge.\u00a0Sakti3 has achieved leaps in performance, which current battery technology simply can\u2019t.\u00a0It\u2019s these fundamental technologies \u2013 batteries, motors \u2013 that allow machines to work properly.<\/p>\n<h3>Dyson Robotic Vacuum Cleaner with\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.aussiebatt.com\/yx-ni-mh-022144-battery.html\">YX-Ni-MH-022144 Battery<\/a><\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.aussiebatt.com\/pursonic-i7-pro-robot-vacuum-cleaner-battery.html\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1488\" src=\"http:\/\/www.aussiebatt.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/pursonic-i7-pro-robot-vacuum-cleaner-battery.jpg\" alt=\"pursonic-i7-pro-robot-vacuum-cleaner-battery\" width=\"600\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.aussiebatt.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/pursonic-i7-pro-robot-vacuum-cleaner-battery.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.aussiebatt.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/pursonic-i7-pro-robot-vacuum-cleaner-battery-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.aussiebatt.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/pursonic-i7-pro-robot-vacuum-cleaner-battery-300x300.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a>The batteries are to be used first in Dyson products such as new versions of its cordless or robotic vacuum cleaners. Dyson last year announced a four-year \u00a31bn research and development plan that includes an expansion of its robotics activities.<\/p>\n<p>The company introduced its first autonomous robotic vacuum cleaner in September, using 12 batteries, twice the number found in its cordless vacuum cleaner.
